Job Title: Mitigation and Adaptation Forester

About the Role:

The Forestry and Peatlands Branch within the department of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Mitigation and Adaptation Forester located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on activities relating to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
  • Implement related projects and develop and implement climate change policies relating to boreal forests and/or peatlands.
  • Conduct research and policy development for the branch, reporting directly to the Section Manager, Planning and Development.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree in forestry, natural resource management, environmental management, or biological sciences.
  • Experience developing and implementing climate change mitigation and adaptation activities related to boreal forest management and renewal practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing and preparing synthesis documents.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities.
  • Knowledge of Forestry legislation and policy.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to remote locations throughout the Province of Manitoba via truck, all-terrain vehicle, boat, and by rotary or fixed wing aircraft.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent from other provinces without any restrictions.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime when required, and work out-of-town for extended periods with overnight accommodations in bunkhouses, hotels, and tents.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, which may require moderate physical effort.
