About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Youth Health Centre Coordinator to join our Healthy Communities Public Health Team. The successful candidate will work within the Public Health Standards and Protocols and a Health Promoting Schools Approach, guided by the Public Health, Health Promoting Schools Standards.

The Youth Health Centre Coordinator will provide leadership, informal assessment, service navigation, youth engagement, and support for youth associated with the assigned school facility and its immediate community. The Coordinator will champion youth health, health equity, and facilitate youth engagement as a component of health-promoting schools.

The successful candidate will work with youth and foster cooperation and collaboration among school administrators, teachers, SchoolsPlus, guidance, student/youth support workers, primary health care, mental health and addictions, and other community partners to ensure youth have access to support, programs, and services within the school and community that promote health.

The Coordinator will model and provide safe, equitable, and inclusive youth support and understand the diverse experiences of the school and the surrounding community.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a baccalaureate degree in a relevant health care discipline, such as registered nursing, occupational therapy, social work, or nutrition. The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years' experience in a relevant field, with direct experience working with youth.

The ideal candidate will be registered/licensed with their regulated health care discipline, college, or association. A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are also required.

The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team, both within the organization and in the community. They will be able to critically assess situations, navigate complex scenarios, and make sound decisions using a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach in supporting youth.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability and experience in creating opportunities for meaningful youth engagement and fostering youth leadership. They will also have a demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health, health equity, and the impact on health outcomes for youth, families, and communities.

Experience in the application of public health principles and practices, partnership development, and community development is also an asset. Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French being preferred.

Locations

This posting is for three Youth Health Centre Coordinator positions for the following schools:

Middleton/West Kings Schools

Avonview High School

Bridgetown/Annapolis West Education Centre Schools

Applicants must specify their school preference in order of rank.

Hours

The successful candidate will work 70 hours bi-weekly for an approximate ten-month period, aligning with the school calendar year. Their salary will be pro-rated to 0.83 FTE, paid over a twelve-month period, contributing to a period of leave over 8 weeks during a pre-determined summer break in July and August.
