Program Specialist, Arts and Culture Coordinator

Job Summary:

The City of Ottawa is seeking a skilled and experienced arts program supervisor to oversee the day-to-day activities of an arts program within a specialized arts venue. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating a program in theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, and/or media arts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of an arts program
  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate a program in theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, and/or media arts
  • Administer and respond to public inquiries

Requirements:

  • Completion of college or university arts-related studies program
  • Practicing in one of the following disciplines: music, dance, theatre, visual arts, literary arts, media arts, or arts education
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates
  • AODA Customer Service/IASR Training

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of interpretive techniques and designing programs in related disciplines
  • Excellent knowledge of museums standards for the handling and installation of works of art or excellent knowledge in techniques of operating a studio using glazes, kilns, wheels, and/or other related program-specific equipment
  • Excellent knowledge of the local arts community
  • Strong knowledge of developing training programs for instructors and/or volunteers using glazes, kilns, wheels, and clay
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all City of Ottawa corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety

  • Very good oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Training and/or instruction skills
  • Sensitive to the needs of various age groups and their learning ability
  • Ability to use program-specific tools and equipment
  • Completion of health and safety training required by legislation and by the Corporation of the City of Ottawa
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate, and supervise staff
  • Organized, efficient, and productive
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a changing work environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Language Requirement:

The successful candidate will be required to work in English, French, or both, depending on the location of the position.

Police Record Check:

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.
