Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our arts program team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating arts programs in a specialized arts venue.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement arts programs in a specialized arts venue
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of arts programs
  • Administer arts programs and respond to public inquiries
  • Collaborate with arts community partners and stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain relationships with arts organizations and community groups
Requirements
  • Completion of college or university arts-related studies program
  • Practicing in one of the following disciplines: music, dance, theatre, visual arts, literary arts, media arts, or arts education
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates
  • AODA Customer Service/IASR Training
  • Knowledge of interpretive techniques and designing programs in related disciplines
  • Excellent knowledge of museums standards for the handling and installation of works of art or excellent knowledge in technique of operating a studio using glazes, kilns, wheels, and/or other related program-specific equipment
  • Excellent knowledge of the local arts community
  • Strong knowledge of developing training programs for instructors and/or volunteers using glazes, kilns, wheels, and clay
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all City of Ottawa corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety
Competencies, Skills, and Abilities
  • Very good oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Training and/or instruction skills
  • Sensitive to the needs of various age groups and their learning ability
  • Ability to use program-specific tools and equipment
  • Completion of health and safety training required by legislation and by the Corporation of the City of Ottawa
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate, and supervise staff
  • Organized, efficient, and productive
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a changing work environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
What You Need to Know
  • Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only, or Bilingual competencies
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction
