Job Summary:

The Upper Canada District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Team Lead, Information Systems to lead a team of Information System Specialists in the management and support of the corporate student information system (SIS). The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the configuration and management of the PowerSchool Student Information System, ensuring compliance with departmental, organizational, and Ministry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the management and configuration of the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) and ensure compliance of the system by planning and applying required patches/updates/upgrades.
  • Act as a liaison between business departments, stakeholders, the information technology services department, external vendors, and the Ministry of Education.
  • Provide supervision, support, and leadership to the Information Systems Specialist team (ISS) and act as a subject matter expert for the ITS department on student information system portfolio related matters.
  • Ensure established data collection and data entry standards are adhered to by end users, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of student data.
  • Develop training and support strategies for school office staff related to PowerSchool and MOE processes and ensure the ISS Team prepares support resources, plans, and delivers training sessions for end users.
  • Review professional development plans and conduct performance appraisals for employees on the ISS team with the Supervisor of Solution Services.
  • Coordinate with other UCDSB departments on student data management and data analysis/reporting requirements.
  • Apply patches and updates to PowerSchool to comply with MOE reporting requirements.
  • Under the supervision and guidance of the Supervisor of Solutions services, apply strategic business continuity practices to reduce risk of operational disruptions.
  • Keep abreast of changes/enhancements in the collection and submission of student data required to comply with Ontario School Information Systems (OnSIS).
  • Responsible for triaging incoming support requests through the IT service desk solution and assigning tickets as required to the ISS team.
  • Participate or lead other ITS initiatives not necessarily related to PowerSchool or MOE mandates.
  • Back up Information Systems Specialist, as required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2-3 year Specialized Community College in Computer Science or Business Administration; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 4-5 years' experience in a related field.
  • Specific knowledge of configuration and management of student information systems, related applications, and tools.
  • Competencies:
    • Ability to understand trends in student enterprise software and apply technology to support school office staff.
    • Ability to write detailed documentation on critical processes and directives where nuance and style are important.
    • Ability to operate student enterprise software and write SQL code to extract student data from the database.
    • Ability to effectively manage projects and adhere to established project management practices and procedures followed by the ITS team.
    • Ability to apply an upgrade to the PowerSchool Oracle database.
    • Ability to effectively lead and manage a team of Information System Specialists in the support of our student information system.
  • Interpersonal Skills:
    • Communications occur daily with internal employees and direct reports and on a weekly basis or monthly basis with managers and customers/clients, and on a weekly or monthly basis with government representatives, suppliers/contractors, and professional associations.
    • A range of interpersonal skills are used to perform activities such as collaborating as a member of a team, training employees, communicating complex information such as guides and ministry reporting, displaying diplomacy when communicating information, listening to concerns or questions, resolving conflict, and presenting workshops and training sessions.
