Senior Mental Health Nurse Leader

This is a challenging and rewarding role for a seasoned mental health nurse leader to work at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. The successful candidate will have extensive experience working with individuals with major mental illnesses, including those with forensic histories.
About the RoleThe Team Lead will support the Manager of WSFU/SOTU in anticipating unit needs and collaborating with the interprofessional team to provide effective client-centered care. This includes coordinating admissions, discharges, transfers, and appointments, ensuring a high standard of quality and safety. The individual will also facilitate service delivery, ensure accurate and properly recorded client assignments, and coordinate breaks and staffing needs.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Manager to anticipate unit needs and develop strategies to meet them
- Coordinate admissions, discharges, transfers, and appointments, ensuring a smooth flow of clients through the unit
- Facilitate service delivery, ensuring a high standard of quality and safety
- Ensure accurate and properly recorded client assignments, taking into account unit acuity and staffing needs
- Coordinate breaks and staffing needs, ensuring adequate coverage during peak periods
- Support new staff members, including Nursing Resources Unit staff, new graduate nurses, and agency staff, by linking them with appropriate unit resources and facilitating orientation
- -coordinate unit clinical rounds/forums (e.g. morning rounds, team huddles, unit debriefs, etc.) and care conferences as required
- Collaborate with clinical supervisors/preceptors to assign CAMH unit staff to assist students of all disciplines and educate them on unit procedures
The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, with a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate. A BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing are preferred. At least two years of clinical experience within the mental health and addictions field is required, with a focus on forensics.
The candidate will have extensive experience working with individuals with major mental illnesses, including those with forensic histories. They will be able to navigate the forensic system, mitigate risks associated with aggressive behavior and elopement, and possess leadership skills in problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, negotiation, communication, delegation, critical thinking, team building, and interpersonal skills.
A salary of approximately $115,000 - $130,000 per year is expected for this position, based on industry standards and location.
