Your Role as Network Automation Specialist - L2 LeadThis role is responsible for planning, engineering, integration, and deployments of automation, scripting, telemetry, and analytics solutions related to network and firewall appliances. You'll participate in network operations activities with a focus on DevNetOps tasks, working closely with IT Operations members to design, evolve, build, and ensure the integration, manageability, and security of highly available systems and applications.
You will also collaborate with other units to ensure Global Relay's IT Networks integrate seamlessly with storage, virtualization, containerization, and all systems and services.
Key Responsibilities:- Design, deploy, and support automation and scripting solutions to drive new capabilities, visibility, and efficiency for network and firewall appliances.
- Develop Ansible code for configuring, monitoring, and analyzing network and firewall appliances using RESTFUL APIs.
- Create and maintain Python scripts using automation frameworks.
- Develop troubleshooting and debugging code to identify problems.
- Analyze network operations activities and identify use-cases for automation.
- Create meaningful reports and graphs from collected netflow, sflow, J-flow, flowd or IPFIX records.
- Set up logging and monitoring for network devices and create useful dashboards and graphs.
- Participate in strategic planning initiatives and select, install, operationalize, and support infrastructure enhancements.
- Support change management activities.
- Provide assistance to business users and key stakeholders as needed.
- Create documentation, including runbooks, user guides, technical how-to guides, and Method of Procedures (MoP).
- Utilize 'Systems Thinking' to understand interdependencies within the IT Network and Infrastructure, and throughout Global Relay's interests.
- Collaborate with Operations and Development teams to identify, troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct system-related issues.
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- At least 5+ years of experience as a Network Engineer with extensive exposure to config automation and remote network management.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, HTML, Flask CSS, Ansible) and libraries (Netmiko, Paramiko).
- Experience in JSON decoding, encoding, and error handling.
- Familiarity with source control (Git-based).
- Experience with RESTFUL APIs for interacting with network devices and API testing tools (e.g., Postman).
- Knowledge of setting up interaction between secret servers and automation scripts.
- Experience with complex enterprise network architecture planning, design, and implementation.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems, management reporting, and documentation (how-to, processes, procedures, MoP).
- Solid knowledge of deploying and managing Linux.
- Experience with configuring Aruba, Juniper, HPE, Arista, Cisco, and Fortinet would be beneficial.
- Proven experience in provisioning, maintaining, and supporting enterprise networks, firewalls, and related dependencies.
- Familiarity with OpenSource software and/or service management tools and applications (OpenStack, OpenShift, Zabbix, JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, etc.).
- Understanding of network protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, FTP, ARP, ICMP, etc.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently in a complex and challenging environment.
- Experience working in an environment with formally structured IT Operational processes, such as work request ticket management, incident management, change management, problem management, etc.
- ITSM Framework certifications like ITIL, Sigma, SIAM or Methodology certifications like Agile, Scrum, DevNetOps would be advantageous.
This role requires being available after hours and/or weekends for emergency-related work, service-impacting incident resolution, or maintenance during maintenance windows (outside regular business hours).
