We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Education Assistant to provide individualized support to students with special needs in our schools. As a member of our team, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement personalized learning plans that cater to the unique needs of each student.
Key Responsibilities- Assist students with special needs in the classroom and learning support room, under the direction of the classroom teacher/Learning Support Teacher (LST)
- Implement adaptations and strategies outlined in the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Provide personal assistance and care, including wheelchair transfers and behavior safety plans, as required
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, and students with exceptional needs
- Operate various types of special equipment, as required
- Facilitate the movement and positioning of students, as required
- Grade 12 graduation
- Post-secondary training in Special Education or a related field
- Recent experience and training supporting ABA programs
- Proven success in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with parents, teachers, and students with exceptional needs
- Ability to operate various types of special equipment
- Valid B.C. Driver's license
- Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments
- Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Ability and dedication in working with students with diverse physical, social, and cognitive needs
The successful applicant will have training and experience working with a wide variety of children with special needs, including those with learning disabilities, multiple handicapping conditions, challenging behaviors, and autism. Personal care may be required. May be required to support community services, such as swimming or bowling, and may be required to drive.
