Job Summary:

Brightshores is seeking a skilled Nurse Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and promoting health and wellness in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess patient needs and develop individualized care plans to promote optimal health and function.
  • Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, performing medical procedures, and providing education and support to patients and families.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and ensure seamless transitions between departments.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures to enhance patient care.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest medical research and best practices to provide evidence-based care.

Requirements:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Physical Assessment course.
  • CC1 or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of current medical experience within the last five years.
  • Oncology and palliative care nursing experience within the last two years.
  • Experience in administration of chemotherapy drugs and management of side effects.
  • Venipunctures to establish an IV required.
  • IV medications below the drip chamber.
  • Central line care – including tubing, dressing change, line removal, and blood sampling.
  • Maintenance of TPN.
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing population and patient needs.
  • Leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interviewing and patient assessment skills.
  • Interest and experience in patient education and health promotion.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education.
  • Participation in staff meetings and unit-specific projects.
  • Availability to work all shifts, including weekends.
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Brightshores' CARE Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and LEAD Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others).
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at Brightshores through patient safety knowledge, skills, and attitudes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in nursing.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Additional education pertaining to palliative care and oncology.
  • Broad medical experience preferred.
  • Oncology Certificate.
