Job Overview

As a key member of the Qualico Canada team, the Estimator-Lumber will play a crucial role in creating the structural framework that supports roofs, ceilings, and walls in buildings. This position requires a strong focus on preparing models for estimating use, with a primary emphasis on engineered wood products (EWP) design and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop computer models using computer-aided design (CAD) software to create accurate and detailed designs.
  • Review and interpret customer-supplied documents, such as blueprints or drawings, to identify areas that require clarification.
  • Assess the constructability of projects and identify opportunities for value engineering to optimize costs and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with clients to discuss project details and design specifications, ensuring a clear understanding of project requirements.
  • Maintain model price lists and provide guidance to Designers and Sales Department on project pricing.
  • Promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with Qualico Canada's Safety Program, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide support to other projects or duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education or technical training courses in Engineering, Architecture, or Drafting.
  • Knowledge of building codes, wood frame construction practices, construction methods, design principles, and building materials.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Excel) and drafting and industry design software (Mitek).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in the construction industry or as an Estimator for a home builder or trade partner.
  • Previous drafting and design experience in the construction industry.
  • Previous experience in the lumber and building materials industry.

Work Conditions

This role primarily works in an office setting during regular business hours, with occasional travel to sites and overtime required. After a probationary period, a flexible workplace policy will be available.
