Position Overview

As a key member of our team reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Lumber Estimator plays a crucial role in developing the structural frameworks that support various building elements, with a strong emphasis on preparing models for estimation purposes. This position involves working with engineered wood products, including light metal plate connected wood trusses, prefabricated wood I-joists, and structural composite lumber (SCL).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed computer models.
  • Analyzing and interpreting client-provided documents, such as blueprints and drawings, to pinpoint areas needing clarification.
  • Assessing project constructability and identifying potential value engineering opportunities.
  • Engaging with clients to discuss project specifics and design requirements.
  • Maintaining updated model price lists and guiding Designers and Sales teams on project pricing.
  • Fostering a safe work environment by adhering to Qualico's Safety Program and policies.
  • Providing assistance on various projects or tasks as required.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education or technical training in Engineering, Architecture, or Drafting.
  • Familiarity with building codes, wood frame construction practices, design principles, and materials.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Successful completion of a criminal record check.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel) and drafting/design software (Mitek).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the construction industry or as an Estimator for home builders or trade partners.
  • Background in drafting and design within the construction sector.
  • Experience in the lumber and building materials industry is advantageous.
