About the Opportunity

Join us at the University of Toronto as a Sessional Lecturer for the Winter semester. We are seeking an experienced instructor to teach our CDN367H1S course, Courses Description: Exploring Canada's Social and Cultural Landscape, examining the complexities of social and cultural interaction in the context of changing Canadian demographics.

Course Details

This course will cover policies regarding Indigenous rights, migration, multiculturalism, and citizenship with contemporary cultural narratives in literature, painting, and film. The estimated course enrolment is 59 students, and we expect to provide 1 position of teaching assistant support (50 hours). Classes will be held on Thursdays from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.**

Sessional Dates of Appointment

The appointment period will be from January 2025 to April 2025 (Winter semester).

Compensation Package

We offer a competitive compensation package that includes:

  • Salary: $10,326.62 (Sessional Lecturer 2) per hour, based on a long-term agreement;
  • Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance; retirement savings plan with employer matching; and paid vacation time.

Responsibilities

As a Sessional Lecturer, you will be responsible for:

  • Teaching and Assessing Students: Design and deliver engaging course content; develop, administer, and mark assignments, tests, and exams; calculate and submit grades;
  • Supervising Teaching Assistants: Oversee the work of teaching assistants and provide guidance and support;
  • Maintaining Office Hours: Hold regular office hours to meet with students and address their questions and concerns.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Master's Degree: A degree in Social Sciences or Humanities;
  • Research and Teaching Expertise: Demonstrated research and teaching expertise on issues relating to pluralism in Canada;
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with students and colleagues;
  • Previous Teaching Experience: Previous experience in teaching a similar course, preferably with a focus on Canadian studies or related fields.
