About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Clinical Therapist to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for delivering evidence-based psycho-social assessments and treatments to adults with Tier-3 mental disorders and Substance Use Disorders.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in a clinical health-related discipline and current registration with a relevant provincial regulatory body. You will have a minimum of two years' experience in assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and discharge planning, as well as in-depth knowledge of harm reduction, addiction dynamics, and evidence-based interventions.

You will be responsible for conducting individual and group cognitive behavioral therapy sessions, as well as psycho-educational groups. You will also be expected to demonstrate knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide, and violence risk assessment/intervention.

We are looking for a team player who can work independently with limited supervision and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team. You will have basic competencies in identifying and treating concurrent mental health and substance use disorders, as well as experience in interviewing, counseling, and teaching health concepts to individuals, families, and groups.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the principles of harm reduction, addiction dynamics, and evidence-based interventions for the treatment of addiction. You will also have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of standard criteria used for the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders.

About You
  • Master's degree in a clinical health-related discipline (Masters in Social Work, Psychology, Masters in Counseling, Masters in Nursing, or Masters in Occupational Therapy)
  • Current registration with a relevant provincial regulatory body or eligible
  • Minimum two years' experience in assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and discharge planning
  • In-depth knowledge of harm reduction, addiction dynamics, and evidence-based interventions for the treatment of addiction
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of standard criteria used for the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in individual/group cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psycho-educational groups
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide, and violence risk assessment/intervention
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently with limited supervision and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Basic competencies in identifying and treating concurrent mental health and substance use disorders
  • Experience in interviewing, counseling, and teaching health concepts to individuals, families, and groups
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in collaborating with families in relation to sharing information, and implementing family-sensitive services that involve families in the care and recovery of people living with mental illness and addiction
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
