About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will work under the direction of a professional nurse and/or therapist to implement treatment plans and assist patients in achieving their rehabilitation goals.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Carry out designated components of a rehabilitative treatment plan under the direction of a physiotherapist or occupational therapist, including activities of daily living, mobility, and strengthening and balancing exercises.
  2. Observe and report to the appropriate team member any cognitive or functional changes in patient ability or behavior that may warrant a progression or regression of the treatment plan.
  3. Provide input into the planning, implementation, modification, and evaluation of the treatment plan as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  4. Perform various tests as assigned by PT or OT, such as the Berg Balance, Timed Up and Go (TUG), and six-minute walk test, and record and report relevant data for interpretation by the therapist.
  5. Prepare and apply therapeutic treatment modalities as assigned by PT or OT, including transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS), neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), hot packs, ice, and wax treatments.
  6. Provide functional skills training to patients and families in activities of daily living, mobility, and communication, and demonstrate the use of assistive devices as assigned by PT or OT.
Requirements
  • Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
