Job Title: Child and Youth Counsellor

North York General Hospital is seeking a skilled Child and Youth Counsellor to join our dynamic team in the Child Mental Health Inpatient Unit.

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and compassionate individual to provide direct care to patients and families experiencing acute psychiatric conditions. As a Child and Youth Counsellor, you will develop and implement a plan of care in collaboration with the child/family and other healthcare team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care to patients and families experiencing acute psychiatric conditions
  • Develop and implement a plan of care in collaboration with the child/family and other healthcare team members
  • Act as a role model and mentor CYC colleagues and students
  • Participate in the comprehensive assessment of the adolescent with a focus on psychosocial issues, strengths, and functioning in the context of the family and milieu
  • Collaborate to develop individualized and comprehensive plan of care to achieve mutually agreed upon goals
  • Participate in quality improvement activities as required
  • Engage in evidence-based practice and may initiate changes to improve the quality of CYC interventions as appropriate
  • Participate in ongoing professional development
  • Participate in unit/program/Hospital committees as required
Qualifications
  • Certified Child & Youth Counsellor Diploma from a recognized community college
  • Baccalaureate degree in related field, preferred
  • O.A.C.Y.C. membership, preferred
  • Broad experience in an acute psychiatric setting, preferred
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset

This is a Part Time Casual position with 8 hour shifts on an as needed basis in the Child Mental Health Inpatient Unit. We offer a highly competitive total compensation package which includes pay in lieu of benefits, vacation pay and the opportunity to join the Hospital Pension Plan.
