Caregiver - Personal Support Worker

As a valued member of the Halton Region care team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional personal care and support to our residents. Your expertise and compassion will help create a warm and welcoming environment that promotes their physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide personalized care and assistance with daily living activities, ensuring the highest level of comfort and dignity for our residents.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and colleagues to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, demonstrating respect, empathy, and a positive attitude in all interactions.
  • Collaborate with the care team to create a personalized care plan that meets the unique needs and preferences of each resident.
  • Monitor and report any changes in resident status, ensuring timely interventions and adjustments to care plans as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of resident care, including flow sheets and other relevant documentation.
  • Contribute to a safe and healthy environment by adhering to infection control protocols and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of excellence within the care team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma and a Personal Support Worker Certificate from a recognized college.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with residents, families, and colleagues.
  • Understanding of the Residents' Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry of Long-Term Care.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing resident needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in geriatrics, rehabilitation, or long-term care.
  • Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) or other relevant caregiving techniques.
  • Familiarity with basic computer functionality and experience with electronic medical records (EMRs) or other relevant software.

Working Conditions

  • Must be available to work a minimum of two (2) shifts per week, including weekends.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Must be able to perform all necessary physical tasks associated with resident care and assistance.

Employment Requirements

  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Current two-step tuberculosis test (obtained within the past six (6) months).
