Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and support to residents, including assistance with daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, staff, and families to ensure seamless care and support.
  • Provide excellent customer service, demonstrating a respectful, courteous, and pleasant manner at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with the care team to create a home-like atmosphere and provide individualized service to each resident.
  • Observe and report any changes in a resident's status, ensuring timely interventions and support.
  • Record necessary data, such as flow sheets, to maintain accurate records and support quality care.
  • Share responsibility for the care and maintenance of equipment and personal belongings of residents.
  • Work cooperatively with team members to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Receive direction from registered staff and participate in quality improvement activities as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma and a Personal Support Worker Certificate from a recognized college.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with residents, staff, and families.
  • Understanding of the Residents' Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry of Long-Term Care.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing resident needs.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in geriatrics, rehabilitation, or long-term care.
  • Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) or similar.
  • Familiarity with basic computer functionality and experience with Point Click Care (PCC) or Point of Care (POC).

Working and Employment Conditions

Working Conditions

  • Must be available to work a minimum of two (2) shifts plus one (1) weekend per month.
  • Must be able to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to perform all necessary physical tasks associated with the care and assistance of residents.

Employment Conditions

  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original, and acceptable Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening by the first day of employment.
  • Current two-step tuberculosis test (obtained within the past six (6) months) by the first day of employment.
