As an Underwriter I, Commercial Lines Auto, you will be responsible for participating in broker visits, insurance industry functions, and marketing events to support broker relationship development. You will use your negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company, make recommendations to improve department processes, and analyze requests for quotes to recommend innovative solutions. You will focus on building relationships while underwriting and rating policies, providing technical advice, recommendations, and mentoring to team members, and assessing, evaluating, and negotiating on moderate to complex risks.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education and/or relevant experience
- 1-3 years of commercial lines auto (fleet) experience
- Very strong sales and customer service skills
- Completion of or progress toward a CIP designation is an asset
- Maintain an expert and current understanding of all relevant Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions related thereto
- Demonstrate the ability to handle complex risks
- Awareness of local community conditions and insurance issues
- Strong negotiating skills and business savvy
- Initiative and ability to work under pressure
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools
- No Canadian work experience required, however, must be eligible to work in Canada
