Physician Associate

Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health are seeking highly skilled Physician Associates to join our team. As a Physician Associate, you will play a vital role in providing primary clinical care within our Hospitalist Program.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to obtain a Restricted license as Physician Hospitalist and the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) through a 2-year competency-based training and assessment program. This program will provide a comprehensive curriculum of training, including direct and indirect supervision, and a Comprehensive Clinical Assessment of Practice.
As a Physician Associate, you will be responsible for:
- Providing primary clinical care under the supervision of an attending member of the Hospitalist Program
- Participating in a directed continuing professional development (CPD) program to enhance competencies related to the Hospitalist scope of practice
- Undergoing CPSNS-directed supervision under a preceptorship model of skill development and assessment
- Managing the day-to-day care of patients, including writing medical orders on charts and responding to emergencies, in consultation with the Preceptor and attending staff
- Performing assessments and examinations within the scope of their demonstrated competence and privileges and according to established policies and protocols
- Communicating with patients, families, referring and family Physicians concerning patient management plans
- Arranging consultation with other departments for care and investigation and following through on investigations and arranging follow-up and outpatient visits
- Attending educational sessions and rounds as time permits as well as monthly departmental meetings
- Participating in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of at least 50 hours per year
- Participating in on-call responsibilities of the service
We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Postgraduate training and independent practice in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
- Meet the requirements to obtain a Clinical Assistant License to act as an Associate Physician, from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
- CMPA coverage required
- Good command of written and spoken English
- Ability to promote and maintain good interpersonal skills
- Physical demand - Ability to sit, stand, walk and perform duties as outlined above
- Mental and Visual demand – High; ability to deal with stressful situations
- Competencies in other languages an asset
- Ability to hold a valid work permit, permanent resident status or Canadian citizenship
The successful candidate will work a long assignment, full-time position, 96 hours bi-weekly (24 months) with a competitive hourly rate of $63.57.
