About UsThe Peace River Regional District is a local government organization that serves a population of over 61,000 people in seven municipalities and four rural electoral areas. Our district is characterized by rolling hills, grain farms, and cattle ranches, as well as severe mountain wilderness west of the Rockies.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the planning department, including the review and processing of development applications;
- Lead long-range land use planning efforts, including the development of official community plans and zoning bylaws;
- Provide guidance and support to planning staff on technical matters related to planning documents and legislation;
- Collaborate with senior management, external agencies, and stakeholders to advance regional planning initiatives;
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partners, including member municipalities, committees, and community groups;
- Stay up-to-date with changes in planning laws, regulations, and best practices, and apply this knowledge to inform planning decisions and activities.
- A post-secondary degree in land use planning or a related field;
- Several years of experience in planning, preferably in a local government setting;
- A Registered Professional Planner with membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) is an asset;
- Demonstrated experience in preparing, applying, and interpreting planning documents and regulation instruments;
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders;
- A valid BC driver's license is required for travel around the region.
This is a competitive position with a salary range of $109,064 - $128,310 per year, plus excellent benefits.
