Learning Facilitator

About the Role
Douglas College is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Peer Tutor. As a Peer Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting students in developing their academic skills and achieving their academic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with students to develop academic success strategies for writing, communication, course content, computer skills, and study skills.
- Engage in continuous professional development and training to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Assist students in scheduling appointments, referring them to other resources, conducting workshops, and participating in marketing activities.
- Collaborate with internal committees to promote academic success and student engagement.
Requirements
- Hold a minimum of a "B" average in the subject content being tutored, or have documented experience equivalent to a "B" average in the subject content being tutored.
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students and staff.
- Be able to take initiative and exercise critical thinking in a fast-paced environment.
- Have a high level of emotional intelligence and empathy when working with students.
- Be willing to engage in training activities and professional development opportunities.
- Have experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Office365.
- Meet the eligibility criteria for domestic or international students, as outlined below.
Eligibility Criteria
- Domestic students must meet one of the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term.
- Have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and have indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term.
- Be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term.
- Have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and have indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term.
International Students
- Must meet one of the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year.
- Be an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit that has the notation – "May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria."

- An original copy of a Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- An original Study Permit
Selection Criteria
- Qualified Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference over students of other qualifying institutions.
