Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mathematics Facilitator to join our team at Douglas College. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing instructional support and assistance to students and faculty to facilitate learning outcomes in Mathematics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Support
    • Provides ongoing instructional support on an individual basis or in groups for students in all Douglas College Mathematics courses.
    • Explains concepts, answers questions, demonstrates how to solve problems, and provides encouragement.
    • Advises students on math courses and prerequisites.
    • Organizes, conducts, and presents at workshops for students when needed.
  • Lab Coordination
    • Coordinates Math Lab activities to meet the requirements of course objectives as established by curricular approval process.
    • Provides drop-in assistance to students in the Math Lab to develop further understanding of and/or overcome difficulties with Mathematics material.
    • Makes recommendations with respect to ongoing curricular activities in the Math Lab and proposes new activities.
  • Tutorial Instruction
    • Conducts the tutorial component of college math courses.
    • Demonstrates the correct use of graphing and mathematics computer software technology.
    • Develops and implements strategies to facilitate student learning.
  • Evaluation and Assessment
    • Evaluates student work and performance in relation to tutorial requirements.
    • Assesses and assigns final tutorial grades.
    • Maintains records of Mathematics tutorial grades.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Maintains the Math Lab and associated instructional supplies.
    • Develops and maintains a variety of statistics and generates statistical reports related to Math Lab and mathematics tutorial issues.
    • Informs new students about the Mathematics Lab facilities.
    Requirements
    • A Bachelor of Arts or Science in Mathematics or equivalent degree from a recognized post-secondary educational institution.
    • At least 4 months of experience teaching college-level mathematics to groups of students.
    • Working knowledge of current mathematics software and graphing technology.
    • Demonstrated experience speaking to groups and preparing written materials and explanatory solutions for mathematics labs.
    • Good working knowledge of the English language (written and verbal).
