About the Role

Meadow Springs Education Support Centre is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer to join their friendly team.

The successful applicant will work with the school to develop positive relationships with parents, carers, and the local community. They will support the Leadership team to review and develop a Reconciliation Action Plan with the school's parents, carers, and local community.

The successful applicant will possess the ability to use initiative and work independently, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with staff and build positive relationships with students, parents, and the wider community of elders.

They will support students' social and emotional needs, improve attendance and engagement, and work with students on literacy and numeracy in small intervention groups.

The successful applicant will also have input into ensuring that the school has culturally responsive practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents, carers, and the local community
  • Support the Leadership team to review and develop a Reconciliation Action Plan
  • Work collaboratively with staff to build positive relationships with students, parents, and the wider community of elders
  • Support students' social and emotional needs and improve attendance and engagement
  • Work with students on literacy and numeracy in small intervention groups
  • Ensure culturally responsive practices in the school

  • Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a school-level team
  • Demonstrated ability to provide multi-cultural direction in the development of the educational program
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively assist teachers in implementing educational and behaviour management programs
  • Demonstrated good organisational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students

Eligibility

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment
  • Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before starting
  • Consent to a National Criminal History Check with the Department's Screening Unit
