Job Title: Education Assistant - Special Needs Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Education Assistant to join our team as a Special Needs Lead. This is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with teachers and other Education Assistants to lead, mentor, and coach evidence-based practices that support the learning and development of all students.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the delivery of education programs and behavior management plans, and be able to identify problems and assist teachers and other Education Assistants in the development of strategies and solutions. They will also have well-developed oral communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to lead, mentor, coach, induct, and train other Education Assistants and professional teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor Education Assistants to develop and implement evidence-based practices that support student learning and development
  • Collaborate with teachers and other Education Assistants to design and implement documented plans in consultation with parents, school Psychologists, and relevant professionals
  • Maintain records regarding implementation of these plans and provide regular updates to teachers and other Education Assistants
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of induction, performance management, and rostering for Education Assistants
  • Advocate as part of an effective team to promote success for all students
Requirements
  • Significant experience working with students with a range of learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), specific learning disabilities, and trauma
  • Knowledge and experience of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, visual supports, Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH), and Positive Behaviour Support approaches
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, Education Assistants, and other professionals to develop and implement evidence-based practices
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead, mentor, coach, and train other Education Assistants and professional teams
