As an Avalanche Forecaster at WhiteWater Ski Resort, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our guests and staff by monitoring weather and snowpack conditions to create a hazard assessment and implement appropriate avalanche risk management decisions resort-wide.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide daily avalanche hazard assessments and forecasts to inform terrain management decisions.
- Oversee avalanche control programs resort-wide, ensuring that terrain with elevated risk is closed to the public.
- Develop and implement training programs for staff on avalanche safety and risk management.
- Communicate avalanche hazards to staff and guests through various channels, including social media updates and public bulletins.
- Participate in search and rescue operations, including leading incident command structures during avalanche or backcountry incidents.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely weather observations and snowpack data.
- Administer first aid to injured guests and staff, and transport injured skiers from the mountain to the First Aid room.
- Investigate accidents and near-misses, and report findings to the program manager.
- NUEC Level 3 First Aid with advanced protocols or equivalent.
- Avalanche Operations Level 2 from the Canadian Avalanche Association.
- Work Safe BC Blasting Certificate for Avalanche Control with Hand Charging endorsement.
- Canadian Avalanche Association Avalanche Professional membership.
- Minimum three years of avalanche forecasting and explosive control experience.
- Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License.
