Reports to: Avalanche Forecasting Supervisor
Employment Status/Type: Seasonal Full-Time, Nov - Apr (weather dependent)

Job Summary:As an Avalanche Forecaster at Whitewater Ski Resort, you will be responsible for monitoring weather and snowpack conditions to create a hazard assessment and implement appropriate avalanche risk management decisions resort-wide. This role requires effective communication of avalanche hazards to staff members and guests through various channels.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide daily avalanche hazard assessments and forecasts.
- Oversee avalanche control programs resort-wide.
- Ensure terrain with elevated risk is closed to the public.
- Provide training and mentorship to employees.
- Communicate avalanche risk management information to guests and staff.
- Administer first aid to injured guests and staff.
- Investigate accidents and near misses.
- Ensure accurate data recording and reporting.
- Lead Avalanche Skills Training courses.
- Assume roles in incident command structures during search and rescue operations.
- NUEC Level 3 First Aid with advanced protocols or equivalent.
- Avalanche Operations Level 2 from Canadian Avalanche Association.
- Work Safe BC Blasting Certificate for Avalanche Control with Hand Charging endorsement.
- Canadian Avalanche Association Avalanche Professional membership.
- Minimum three years of avalanche forecasting & explosive control experience.
- Class 5 British Columbia Drivers License.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain organized and level-headed in emergency situations.
- Recognizes cause of risk and is familiar with current industry risk control measures.
- Advanced Skiing Ability.
- Able to ski with considerable loads and patient toboggans.
- Able to perform search and rescue activities.
- Able to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Able to work in early morning hours and for extended periods.
