Job Overview


The Snow Safety Specialist at WhiteWater Ski Resort is responsible for ensuring the safety of guests and staff by monitoring weather and snowpack conditions to create a hazard assessment and implement appropriate avalanche risk management decisions resort-wide.


This role involves planning, overseeing, and implementing avalanche control measures and training resort-wide, as well as communicating avalanche hazards to staff members and guests effectively through various channels.


Key responsibilities include providing a daily avalanche hazard assessment and forecast, assisting with managing the avalanche control program resort-wide, and ensuring that avalanche risk within all open terrain is within operational thresholds.


Additionally, the Snow Safety Specialist will provide training and mentorship to employees, administer first aid to injured guests and staff, and investigate accidents and near misses.


Key Responsibilities



  • Provide daily avalanche hazard assessment and forecast
  • Assist with managing avalanche control program resort-wide
  • Ensure avalanche risk within all open terrain is within operational thresholds
  • Provide training and mentorship to employees
  • Administer first aid to injured guests and staff
  • Investigate accidents and near misses
  • Communicate avalanche hazards to staff members and guests

Requirements



  • NUEC Level 3 First Aid with advanced protocols
  • Avalanche Operations Level 2 from Canadian Avalanche Association
  • Work Safe BC Blasting Certificate for Avalanche Control with Hand Charging endorsement
  • Canadian Avalanche Association Avalanche Practitioner membership
  • Minimum two years of avalanche forecasting and explosive control experience
  • Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License

Working Conditions


The Snow Safety Specialist will work in a fast-paced winter environment, operating daily under the direction of the Lead Forecaster. This role requires the ability to remain organized and level-headed in a variety of emergency situations, as well as the ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
