Ciena Canada, Inc. is committed to fostering a culture that prioritizes individual growth, wellbeing, and belonging. As a Senior Optical System Designer, you will be part of a team that defines the overall photonic system features and architectures, and the control strategies to operate it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and author Product Specification Agreements detailing high-level requirements for new features or architecture.
  • Collaborate with Product Line Managers to clarify and negotiate customer requirements.
  • Generate innovative solutions and trade off acceptable solutions versus complexity.
  • Support customer demonstrations of new features or prototypes.
  • Assist with complex and urgent field issues escalated from the support organization.
  • Mentor junior team members.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of fiber optic communication systems and optical technologies/architectures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.

Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of optical DWDM photonic platforms and their applications.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues and coordinate teams to reach a root cause analysis.
  • Understanding of optical link budgeting and application to new designs.
  • Familiarity with YANG data model structures and NBI.
  • Bachelor, Masters, or PhD in a relevant engineering or physics degree plus minimum 4 years relevant industrial experience.

Location

Full-time position based in Ottawa, Canada.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $90,800 to $145,000 CAD. Ciena offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, participation in 401(K) and DCPP, Employee Stock Purchase Program, Employee Assistance Program, company-paid holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation time.
