Job Title: Payroll and Benefits Specialist

Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Payroll and Benefits Specialist. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in payroll and benefits administration, with excellent communication and organizational skills.

Job Summary:

The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will be responsible for administering payroll and benefits to a large number of multi-union and non-union employee groups, along with their dependents and beneficiaries. This includes performing a variety of duties in accordance with legislation, collective agreements, and employment contracts, as well as established practice and procedures in both payroll and general accounting.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer payroll and benefits to employee groups, including processing payrolls, benefits enrollments, and terminations.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, collective agreements, and employment contracts.
  • Perform various duties in payroll and general accounting, including reconciliations and audits.
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees and management.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and detailed records and reports.

Requirements:

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Two years post-secondary education in a related field, such as Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Level 1 & 2 from the National Payroll Institute.
  • At least five years of recent experience as a full-time payroll or benefits professional, preferably in a large, unionized environment.
  • Experience working with a HRMS/HRIS system.
  • Minimum keyboarding speed of 60 cwpm and 200 cspm.
  • Above average knowledge and experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of privacy legislation and regulations, as well as policies and administrative practices required to protect personal information.
