Role Summary

The position involves delivering professional nursing services to patients, including the administration of intravenous or injectable biologics and specialty pharmaceuticals. The role emphasizes patient health by conducting thorough health assessments prior to treatment, reviewing medical histories, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure effective medical therapies and education for patients in an outpatient setting.

The nurse will utilize critical thinking, effective communication, and clinical judgment to assess, plan, implement, educate, and evaluate patient health throughout their treatment process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting health assessments to determine patient eligibility for medical therapies.
  • Administering intravenous access and ensuring compliance with sterile techniques.
  • Reviewing patient records to gain insights into their medical history.
  • Preparing and administering biologic or oncology medications in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Adhering to nursing standards and regulations regarding medication administration.
  • Identifying patient care needs and providing education and counseling.
  • Encouraging patient independence and understanding of their health conditions and treatments.
  • Documenting patient care and maintaining accurate records in line with company policies.
  • Following established medical directives for treatment and monitoring adverse reactions.
  • Reporting any adverse events in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitoring patients post-administration and conducting necessary assessments.
  • Staying informed about medical therapies and product information.
  • Participating in training and mentoring of new staff members.
  • Ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and infection control standards.

General Duties

  • Maintaining effective communication and documentation among nursing teams.
  • Creating a supportive environment for patients.
  • Ensuring patient confidentiality and safety in the workplace.
  • Managing medical supplies and ensuring proper equipment functionality.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development through educational opportunities.
  • Collaborating with healthcare teams to enhance patient care.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience.
  • Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of British Columbia, in good standing.

Essential Skills

  • Infusion certification or equivalent experience is required.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • ACLS certification is advantageous.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in dynamic environments.
  • Proficiency in using computerized systems for patient records.
