Role Overview
The position entails delivering expert nursing care to patients, which includes administering biologics and specialty pharmaceuticals through intravenous or injection methods. The role emphasizes promoting patient health by conducting thorough health assessments prior to treatment, reviewing patient records, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal medical therapies and education in an outpatient environment.
The nurse will utilize critical thinking, effective communication, and clinical judgment to assess, plan, implement, educate, and evaluate patient health throughout their treatment journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting health assessments to determine patient eligibility for medical therapies.
- Administering intravenous access and ensuring compliance with sterile techniques.
- Reviewing patient histories and previous treatment records for informed care.
- Preparing and handling biologic or oncology medications in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Adhering to provincial nursing standards for medication administration.
- Identifying patient care needs and providing education and counseling.
- Encouraging patient independence through education about their conditions and medications.
- Documenting patient care and maintaining accurate records per company policies.
- Following established nursing philosophies and standards of care.
- Monitoring patients post-administration and reporting any adverse events as required.
- Participating in training and mentoring new staff members.
- Maintaining quality and safety standards in nursing practice.
General Duties
- Ensuring continuity of care by documenting and communicating patient needs and actions.
- Creating a supportive environment for patients.
- Protecting patient confidentiality and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Ensuring proper equipment operation through preventive maintenance.
- Keeping medical supplies at adequate levels.
- Staying current with professional knowledge through educational opportunities.
- Collaborating effectively with healthcare teams to enhance patient care.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience and a recognized nursing degree.
- Registered Nurse with the provincial nursing regulatory body, in good standing.
Essential Skills
- Infusion certification or equivalent experience is required.
- Current CPR certification.
- ACLS certification is advantageous.
- Ability to adapt to various clinical environments.
- Strong assessment and clinical decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with patients and healthcare teams.
- Proficient in using electronic health records and office software.
