Job Summary:

As an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) with Alberta Health Services, you will play a critical role in providing emergency medical care to patients in need. This includes assessing emergency scenes, treating patients, and transporting them to medical facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess emergency scenes and patients to determine the level of care required
  • Administer medications and provide advanced life support (ALS) to patients
  • Transport patients to medical facilities using ambulances or other modes of transportation
  • Lead ALS crews in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes
  • Ensure that ambulances or other EMS vehicles are properly stocked and equipped

Working Conditions:

The working environment for an ACP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will need to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids.

Physical Demands:

The working conditions for an ACP are also physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105lbs, while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must also be able to stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, side-carry up to 20lbs in each hand, and assume awkward positions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP)
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP)
  • Valid class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent
  • Five (5) year driver abstract current within six (6) months with no more than six (6) demerits prior to commencing work
  • Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (FARE) test

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector search

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current certification in ACLS, PALS, NRP, ATLS/ITLS
  • Additional, related post-secondary program completion
