Project Controller Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Controller to join our team at Recruitment Partners Inc. in Edmonton.

The ideal candidate will lead the cost control and operational finance function on specific large projects, working closely with the Finance, Operations, and Executive teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide sound project accounting expertise, including percentage of completion and detailed WIP analysis.
  • Manage the accounting for large construction projects, including budgeting, forecasting, change management, reporting, and analysis.
  • Review and understand detailed contracts and apply the terms to the accounting for unique projects.
  • Oversee project variances and recommend actions, while maintaining cash flow reporting.
  • Facilitate and drive cost review meetings with different departments.
  • Maintain and track change orders and claims log.
  • Monitor project accounting systems for proper reporting, security, and control.
  • Utilize WBS and provide forecasting in alignment with an earned value/CPI based approach.
  • Support Project Director/Project Manager in project financial management and divisional reporting.
  • Work with subcontractors, including intercompany and third-party providers.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline (Finance or Accounting).
  • Strong project accounting experience, with a minimum of 5 years of direct experience leading project accounting for construction projects.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, and an aptitude for learning other specialized financial/project software packages.
  • Knowledge and experience utilizing JD Edwards considered an asset.
  • Confident communicator at all levels, with the ability to articulate different points of view.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Strong work ethic and highly organized, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Level-headed and able to deal with challenging, high-stress situations.
