About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Process Engineering Manager to join our team at Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for establishing and driving process continuous improvements, collaborating with other managers, and guiding/mentoring the process engineering group.

Key Accountabilities
  • Provide direction, facilitation, and support for the daily execution of the Process Engineering department's operating plan.
  • Lead the construction of a new plant, building a local process engineering team, and reporting area budget for Process Engineering.
  • Ensure disciplined operation of all equipment and processes consistent with standard operating procedures and standard operating conditions.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and effective problem-solving.
  • Monitor engineering technician certification and progression in line with overall organizational direction.
  • Participate and manage root cause investigations to identify and mitigate systemic issues impacting productivity, quality, and safety of the process.
  • Develop and implement long-term strategic improvements plans for the facility.
  • Facilitate cross-functional effectiveness for planning and troubleshooting with functional groups – ESH, PEG, Warehouse, Maintenance, and Quality.
  • Challenge the status quo by developing and recommending modifications to existing processes and methodologies with a constant focus on continuous improvement and cost reduction.
  • Provide written and oral reports as required.
  • Provide individual feedback to engineers and technicians along with appropriate communications; resolve issues by analyzing data, investigating, identifying solutions, and recommending action.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in plant efficiency.
  • Investigate manufacturing process problems, perform root cause analysis, and develop plans to correct and prevent future occurrences.
  • Identify and track performance indicators and make changes for improvement.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere and oversee the ongoing development of the Process Engineering department staff.
  • Participate in employee performance management (goal setting, performance expectations and standards, performance reviews, ongoing feedback, pro-active coaching, development planning, and corrective action); develop and maintain a sustainable system for the training, evaluation, and development of engineering staff.
  • Direct, maintain, and enforce the safety program for the process engineering departments; review safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all department staff and employees.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required; Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering degree preferred; Master's degree a plus.
  • 7+ years of manufacturing/process engineering experience with demonstrated success in fast-paced and dynamic environments required.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience required.
  • Previous construction experience is required.
  • Experience with plastic extrusion equipment, web handling equipment, and rotation equipment preferred.
  • Experience in ISO 9000 or similar quality system is preferred.
  • Strong emphasis on execution of multiple projects and people/team leadership.
  • Experience with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing/JIT, Kaizen, Kanban, 5S, and Poke Yoke techniques required.
  • Must be proficient in computer skills to include Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working for a global organization with cross-cultural interaction is strongly preferred.

Travel and Schedule

Must be able and willing to travel up to 20% domestically and abroad for training and visiting other company locations. Must be able and willing to work a flexible schedule for emergencies and to attend in-person meetings and conference calls outside of normal business hours.
