About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Port Colborne, Ontario. As a key member of our Engineering & Projects Department, you will be responsible for providing design engineering services for the Port Colborne Refinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of design personnel to complete engineering designs.
  • Ensure adherence to scope, schedule, budget, codes and standards.
  • Own responsibility of integrity for designs produced under your technical direction and legally approve and seal designs and drawings as per the Professional Engineers Act.
  • Provide technical direction for complex engineering designs within your area of expertise and assist and guide other design personnel.
  • Conduct internal engineering studies.
  • Provide inputs to consultants on external engineering studies and review final deliverables.
  • Conduct field inspections, prepare field sketches, and prepare relevant reports.
  • Participate in the review of construction, commissioning and start up functions.
  • Apply sound engineering knowledge and exercise leadership, mentoring and training to other design personnel.
  • Coordinate and review work of engineering consultants designs and specifications for assigned projects.
  • Conduct inspections for piping and equipment, capture and analyze observations and produce plans to address concerns.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Designation Required (P.Eng.) – Province of Ontario Preferred.
Experience
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in mechanical design engineering.
  • Experience in mechanical design for multi-disciplined projects.
  • Experience in conceptual and detailed mechanical design of systems relevant to the refining industry.
  • Experience in piping and pumping design.
  • Experience in mechanical equipment inspections.
  • Experience in planning and estimating.
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Experience in writing equipment and construction specifications.
  • Project engineering experience is an asset.
  • CAPEX/OPEX experience highly desirable.
Skills
  • Experience in designing mechanical systems including piping systems, HVAC, material handling systems, dust control, and machine design.
  • Experience working with applicable codes and regulations including Regulation 854: Mines and Mining Plants, ASME B31.1 and ASME 31.3, ASME B&PV Section 8 & Section 9, CSA 851 & W59, MSS, SMACNA, TSSA, and NFPA.
  • Experience conducting process hazard reviews.
