About the Role

The Recreation Programmer is a key member of our team, responsible for implementing and evaluating activity programs to meet the holistic needs and interests of our residents. This role requires a collaborative team player who can develop and maintain professional relationships that support and strengthen our organizational culture and purpose.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

  • Be an engaged team player, promoting and publicizing established recreation programs such as outings, exercises, crafts, social events, entertainment, and games.
  • Assist residents and provide portering to and from programs as required.
  • Observe, document, and report any changes in residents to the supervisor and/or nurse.
  • Maintain a safe environment for residents, family, and staff through accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures, and regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation as per policy and procedures, confidentiality, and security.
  • Actively participate in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees, and educational in-services.
  • Assist in the maintenance of statistical records using programs such as Activity Pro, Point Click Care, etc.
  • Assist with orientation of new residents and encourage residents to participate or volunteer in their own community.
  • Provide guidance, assistance, and support to volunteers. Assist in the evaluation of volunteers.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Grade 12 Education
  • Graduate from a recognized Activity/Recreation Certificate program
  • Previous experience in a senior's focused environment an asset
  • Dementia course an asset
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 Certificate
  • Serving It Right Certificate
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset
  • Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver's License
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
