Director of Equity and Community Advancement

The University of King's College is committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and equity. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Equity and Community Advancement to join our team.
This is a full-time permanent position, subject to a probationary period, with an estimated annual salary of $90,000-$120,000 based on experience. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a significant impact in shaping our university's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
The Director of Equity and Community Advancement will play a key role in supporting the coordination and integration of EDIA principles and practices throughout the university's academic, teaching, and research mission. This includes providing inspirational and strategic leadership in the development of a transformational university culture that values, supports, and promotes equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and Indigenization.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Master's Degree in a relevant area of study or equivalent education and experience;
- A minimum of 5 years of work experience in progressively senior positions addressing, leading, and advancing social/human/equity services and support preferably in the higher education sector;
- Experience leading and supporting large-scale challenging change initiatives, mentoring and leading a team of professionals;
- Excellent communication, advocacy, and rapport-building skills;
- Knowledge of support systems and community resources within Halifax and surrounding areas;
- Awareness of provincial and federal laws relating to equity.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Liaising with faculty, staff, students, and external partners to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion;
- Developing and implementing EDIA plans, initiatives, and capacity within academic programs and units;
- Serving as the university's institutional lead and liaison for key EDIA partnerships, memberships, and charters;
- Representing the university in local, regional, and national EDIA forums, conferences, and professional organizations;
- Fostering relationships with community organizations and leaders to promote EDIA in the broader community;
- Providing information, taking proactive measures, and being available for consultation to all members of the university community on issues concerning equity, diversity, inclusion, discrimination, and harassment.
