Hospitalist Department Head

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced medical professional to fill the role of Hospitalist Department Head. Reporting to the Zone Medical Executive Director, this individual will provide strategic and operational planning and service leadership, collaborating with administrative Department leaders.
Responsibilities include holding authority over and being responsible for the clinical care of patients within the zone department, ensuring compliance with NSH Policies, Medical Staff Bylaws, and Medical Staff Rules and Regulations of the NSHA.
Key Responsibilities- Hold responsibility for the administrative functioning of the department, including regular department meetings and providing meeting minutes to the Zone Medical Executive Director.
- Work with Hospitalist Site Leads, Medical Site Leads, and operational leadership to ensure service continuity and key patient flow objectives are met.
- Sit as an active member of the Zone Medical Advisory Committee, advising on quality of care, teaching, and research responsibilities within the zone department.
- Hold responsibility for organization and implementation of clinical and academic activities of the department, ensuring alignment with NSHA organization and system priorities.
- Develop and implement a plan focused on improving access and flow for the zone, including community hospitals and cross-facility transfers.
- Attend meetings of the Access and Flow Network Council and contribute to the Network by sharing local context and participating in the development of strategies, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure the continual maintenance and enforcement of professional standards within the department and implement quality assurance and improvement within the zone department.
- Address and resolve medical staff issues, including those involving respectful workplace and interpersonal matters, and oversee complaint and discipline management for all department members.
- MD, licensable in Nova Scotia
- 3-5 years' experience as a medical department member with experience engaging, mentoring, and empowering teams and stakeholders in a collaborative, participative manner
