Hospitalist Department Head

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hospitalist Department Head to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a critical role in providing strategic and operational planning and service leadership for our Hospitalist Zone.
Reporting to the Zone Medical Executive Director, you will work in a co-leadership model with an Administrative Co-Lead to ensure the effective functioning of the department. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing administrative leadership and oversight to the department, including holding regular department meetings and providing meeting minutes to the Zone Medical Executive Director.
- Working with Hospitalist Site Leads, Medical Site Leads, and operational leadership to ensure service continuity and meet key patient flow objectives.
- Sitting as an active member of the Zone Medical Advisory Committee, advising on quality of care, teaching and research responsibilities, and department objectives.
- Developing and implementing a plan to improve access and flow for the zone, including community hospitals and cross-facility transfers.
- Ensuring the maintenance and enforcement of professional standards within the department and implementing quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
- Addressing and resolving medical staff issues, including respectful workplace and interpersonal matters.
As a successful candidate, you will possess a strong background in medicine, with 3-5 years of experience as a medical department member. You will have excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage and empower teams and stakeholders in a collaborative and participative manner.
