Senior Estimator - ICI

The role of the Senior/Lead Estimator involves managing multiple tenders and being responsible for all aspects of the estimate and preparing for closing.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Review drawings and specifications to identify divisions of work.
  • Study plans and specifications, clarifying location and document discrepancies.
  • Confirm site visits and arrange attendance.
  • Organise plans and specifications for display, distribution, and posting on our website.
  • Complete pre-bid forms and set up summary sheets.
  • Fill out bonding and insurance requests and submissions.
  • Prepare sub-trade request lists for estimating assistants.
  • Solicit bidders, prepare sub-trade request lists for distribution, and note special trades to be personally contacted.
  • List special materials and call for prices.
  • Deal with RFI's internally and from sub-trades and log.

This position requires a good understanding of Division 2 (30) and Division 3 scope of work and estimating. The ability to read and understand soils and designated substance reports is mandatory.

The ability to conduct cut and fill take-offs, excavation backfill, site servicing, formwork, and concrete quantities and pricing is required. Ability to work on unit-rate tenders and perform take-offs in direct relation to units. Ability to attend site visits, take pictures, notes, and interact with owners and consultants.

The ability to build preliminary tender schedules based on major and long delivery dates and review with our construction department. Preparation of closing sheets. Ability to identify risk or opportunity avenues. Preparation of tender forms in advance. The ability to close a division or more during a tender. The ability to perform Class D, C, B, and A budgets and interact with clients.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritise various tasks with conflicting deadlines.
Required Qualifications:
  • Engineering or construction management degree, technical college diploma or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
  • At least 5+ years Preconstruction/estimating experience on large-scale projects (preferably ICI focus).
  • Proven experience estimating on multiple high-value projects.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel and Project.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage a tender call.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods), industry practices, estimating/budgeting, scheduling, and safety requirements.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with an excellent attitude and initiative.
Compensation Package:

A competitive salary range of $120,000-$140,000 per annum, plus an excellent bonus/profit-sharing scheme, RRSP matching, and health/dental benefits.
