Emergency Psychiatric Liaison Nurse Specialist

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Psychiatric Liaison Nurse to join our team at Fraser Health Authority. In this critical role, you will provide expert care and support to patients in emergency situations, utilizing your knowledge of mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and de-escalation strategies.
Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) will work closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide psychiatric nursing care services primarily to patients treated/admitted to the Pediatric Emergency Department. Your primary responsibilities will include evaluating patient care needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans, and providing general and crisis counseling to patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluates psychiatric nursing care needs of assigned patients and provides direct psychiatric nursing care
- Develops and modifies individualized care plans in consultation with the interprofessional team and family members
- Performs psychosocial assessments and collects collateral related to patients' primary support group, social environment, occupation, education, housing, finance, health service access, and legal problems
- Collaborates and consults with Emergency Department staff and other allied health department service providers in the hospital and community
- Liaises and communicates as required to support patient flow of admitted psychiatric patients being transferred to inpatient units
- Provides consultation and education to patients, their families, and/or caregivers with respect to illness prevention, health maintenance, and health promotion strategies
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- One year's recent, related experience in an acute psychiatric setting, including experience working with an adolescent population, specialty training in adolescent psychiatry or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
