We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Nursing Specialist to join our team at Fraser Health Authority.

The salary for this position is CAD 41.42 - 59.52 per hour.

About the Role

In this role, you will be responsible for providing and coordinating the delivery of psychiatric nursing care services to patients in an inpatient psychiatry setting.

You will demonstrate nursing expertise and provide clinical leadership in evidence-based practices through direct care activities, including nursing assessments, crisis intervention, patient and family education, and health promotion activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care of assigned patients;
  • Identify actual or potential problems and strengths through nursing diagnosis, plans interventions, performs planned interventions, and evaluates outcomes;
  • Actively participate in and support the total therapeutic program of the unit;
  • Collect information from various sources using skills of observation, communication, and physical assessment to enable the provision of appropriate nursing care;
  • Write timely and accurate reports of relevant assessments and observations, including patient and family education, and evaluation of nursing care;

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM);
  • May require completion of a substance use certificate program;
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety-type interventions, including crisis intervention;
  • Counselling and group facilitation skills;
  • Knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to mental health and substance use practices;
