Key Responsibilities:- Verify tank car numbers with loading instructions to ensure accurate placement and transportation of goods by crew.
- Connect ground cables to prevent static electricity and safely facilitate the unloading process.
- Remove, replace, or direct colleagues to open and close man-way covers as needed.
- Inspect interior cleanliness and exterior for leaks or damage before transporting cargo.
- Lower gauge rods into tanks or read meters to verify specified volumes of liquids being unloaded.
- Seal outlet valves on cars and connect hoses to bottom outlet valves during unloading operations.
- Start pumps or turn valves to admit compressed air and force liquids into storage tanks.
- Test samples for specific gravity and record readings on unloading slips.
- Clean the exterior of tank cars and trucks, and inspect safety equipment for proper functioning.
- Interpret train orders, signals, and regulations to safely transport freight.
- Inspect locomotives before operation to ensure proper fuel levels, sand, water, and other supplies.
- Receive starting signals from foremen or helpers and control movement using throttles and airbrakes.
- Monitor tracks for obstacles and follow safety protocols.
- A high school diploma (or equivalent) is required, along with 1+ years of transloading experience.
- Strong communication skills, comfortable engaging in various communicative modes, and attuned to others through active listening.
- Ability to assess multiple tasks and develop plans to complete them efficiently.
- Teamwork skills are essential for success in this role.
The employee will be exposed to various weather conditions while working outdoors, including moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic chemicals. A moderate noise level is expected in the work environment.
Salary Estimate: $45,000-$60,000 per annum, based on experience and qualifications. Please note that actual salaries may vary depending on individual circumstances and company policies.
