The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Railway Safety and Compliance Specialist to join our team. This critical role involves performing field operations, including emergency response to incidents involving dangerous goods and environmentally sensitive commodities. The successful candidate will deliver emergency response training and outreach programs, execute compliance audits, inspections, and efficiency testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide information and training to response agencies through CN's commitment to TransCAER.
  • Assist CN Operations with required dangerous goods training.
  • Function as CN Dangerous Goods liaison to federal, provincial, state, and local agencies.
  • Perform yard and train inspections regularly to ensure CN's regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to local operations for dangerous goods regulatory compliance.
  • Audit emergency response contractors to assess their response capability within their territory.
  • Deploy and use CN Dangerous Goods Group field equipment effectively.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess fluently bilingual written and verbal skills in English and French. Advanced Tank Car Specialist certification, trained in industrial firefighting, and a degree in Chemistry, Fire Science, or an associated field are considered assets. Hazmat chemical and physical properties, air monitoring, industrial firefighting, knowledge of Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG), United States Operating Rules (USOR), Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR), and TP14877 expertise are also desirable.
