Medical Social Work Specialist

At the Sheldon Chumir Health Center, located in downtown Calgary, we offer a comprehensive range of services including urgent care, mental health, public health, home care, specialty clinics and community outreach. Our Urgent Care Center is staffed 24/7 and provides care for unscheduled health conditions to a diverse population, as part of an integrated community service delivery model.
About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled Medical Social Work Specialist to join our team at the Urgent Care Centre. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide assessment, treatment, consultation, education and/or case management based on client need.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with complex and multidimensional medical, psychosocial, environmental and instrumental needs. You will provide advanced clinical services, consultation to the interprofessional team and patients/families, and supervision of students and team members as assigned.
Key Responsibilities- Provide assessment, treatment, consultation, education and/or case management based on client need
- Work with or within teams to provide healthcare services for patients with complex and multidimensional medical, psychosocial, environmental and instrumental needs
- Provide advanced clinical services, consultation to the interprofessional team and patients/families
- Supervise students and team members as assigned
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- A Master's degree in Social Work
- Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW)
- Recent experience in medical social work, with emphasis on crisis intervention
- Previous experience and training in crisis work
- Ability to work in a high stress, dynamic environment
