Amazon, a leading e-commerce company, is seeking an experienced Medical Care Specialist to join its Workplace Health and Safety team.

Salary:

$80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Job Description:

The Medical Care Specialist will work closely with the WHS site manager, Wellness Specialists, and other teams to provide first aid, advise Amazon Associates on occupational and non-occupational injuries, and promote health and wellness in the workplace.

This role requires strong verbal communication skills, the ability to connect with Amazon Associates and managers, and knowledge of health and wellness principles. The successful candidate will be able to learn and apply their knowledge to provide care for Amazon Associates on a daily basis.

The Medical Care Specialist will also be responsible for referring care to outside medical providers as needed, learning about provincial and federal regulations, and participating in incident investigations and weekly case management review meetings.

Responsibilities:
  1. Provide triage, prompt first aid within the scope of training, and/or referral to outside medical providers, if indicated.
  2. Minimize the risk of injury through awareness, education, and proactive engagement.
  3. Maintain all records of care provided to Amazon Associates.
  4. Develop a first aid care plan for Amazon Associates recovering from an injury, focused on injury improvement, including self-care instructions as needed.
  5. Manage the workers' compensation and return-to-work process for Amazon Associates with work-related injuries.
  6. Provide daily activity logs and end-of-shift reports.
  7. Spend frequent time on the warehouse floor to interact and engage with Amazon Associates and managers to coach on observed at-risk work habits.
  8. Maintain a clean and orderly environment.
  9. Monitor and ensure appropriate medical supply inventory is maintained.
  10. Participate in special projects and ad-hoc tasks as assigned.
  11. Be willing to be trained to teach First Aid/CPR/AED certification classes.
  12. Work flexible shifts, which could include days, nights, and/or weekends.
  13. Communicate effectively.
  14. Display professional behavior.
  15. Multitask and have exceptional time management skills.
  16. Work in and embrace an inclusive and diverse atmosphere.
  17. Follow direction, policy, and procedures as per Amazon and local regulation.
  18. Maintain composure in emergencies and lead emergency response at the site.
  19. Be able to be trained as an advanced first aider who holds a certificate in advanced first aid from an approved training agency.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School or equivalent diploma.
Must have a valid card evidencing successful completion of Advanced Care Paramedic under the Paramedics Profession Regulation (AR 151/2016), AND must have a valid card evidencing successful completion of the standard first aid with CPR/AED level A or C from any accredited Canadian certifying authority, OR
Be a registered nurse who is a member of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta established under the Health Professions Act, AND must have a valid card evidencing successful completion of the standard first aid with CPR/AED level A or C from any accredited Canadian certifying authority AND trained as an advanced first aider who holds a certificate in advanced first aid from an approved training agency.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Certified to teach first aid, CPR, and AED training from Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Red Cross.
Trained as an advanced first aider who holds a certificate in advanced first aid from an approved training agency.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Experience with an industrial wellness program.
Passion for promoting health and wellness.
Experience coaching on body mechanics.
Experience managing musculoskeletal disorders.
Experience in ergonomics.
Experience with federal and province-specific regulations.
Experience with Workers Compensation.
Proficient in digital recordkeeping.
