Job Summary:

The Millwright Apprentice will play a key role in maintaining production and quality by ensuring the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled tradesperson to join our team and contribute to the success of IKO Industries Ltd.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend safety training courses and crew meetings to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including housekeeping, to maintain a clean and organized maintenance shop.
  • Operate a lift truck and aerial work platform as required to access equipment and perform tasks.
  • Perform welding and cutting tasks as required to repair and maintain equipment.
  • Use hand tools, such as air guns, electric shears, hand grinder, screwdrivers, wrenches, and hammers, to perform tasks.
  • Remove, install, or rebuild parts, such as bearings, pumps, gearboxes, clutches, and other mechanical components.
  • Perform general fabrication tasks, including reading blueprints and operating an air compressor.
  • Troubleshoot and repair machinery and equipment to minimize downtime and ensure production continuity.
  • Install new machinery and equipment to support production needs.
  • Work on hot oil, asphalt, steam, and air lines, as well as hot oil boilers and steam generators.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the team and achieve business objectives.

Requirements:

  • Registered in a Skilled Trades Ontario approved apprenticeship program.
  • Meets all Government requirements to be eligible for the Maintenance Millwright program.
  • Must have a full set of metric standard tools.
  • Exposure to mechanical devices, pneumatic controls, and welding/cutting.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to work shifts, including extended hours and weekends, as required.
  • Interpersonal, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds on a routine basis.
  • Ability to walk and/or stand 70-90% of the shift.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
