Mechanical Trades Apprentice

About the Position
The successful candidate will join our team in Brampton, Ontario, as a Millwright Apprentice, reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. Their primary responsibility will be to maintain production and quality by ensuring the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment.
Responsibilities
- Attend safety training courses and crew meetings
- Perform housekeeping duties, including maintaining a clean maintenance shop
- Paint equipment where necessary
- Operate a lift truck and aerial work platform as required
- Perform welding and cutting tasks as needed
- Conduct machine work using drill presses, bandsaws, lathes, milling machines, and grinders
- Perform tasks with hand tools, such as air guns, electric shears, hand grinders, screwdrivers, wrenches, and hammers
- Remove, install, or rebuild parts, including bearings, pumps, gearboxes, clutches, etc.
- Perform general fabrication tasks
- Read blueprints
- Operate an air compressor
- Conduct general maintenance repairs and preventative maintenance
- Troubleshoot and repair machinery and equipment
- Install machinery and equipment
- Work on hot oil, asphalt, steam, and air lines, as well as hot oil boilers and steam generators
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
- Registered in a Skilled Trades Ontario-approved apprenticeship program
- Meets all government requirements to be eligible for the Maintenance Millwright program
- Must possess a full set of metric standard tools
- Exposure to mechanical devices, pneumatic controls, and welding/cutting
- Must be able to read mechanical drawings
- Must be able to work shifts, including extended hours and weekends
- Must possess interpersonal, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds on a routine basis
- Must be able to walk and/or stand 70-90% of the shift
- Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces
