Enterprise Data Strategy Director

We are seeking a seasoned Director, Enterprise Data Architecture to join our team at Sun Life. As a key member of our Enterprise Data Architecture team, you will play a critical role in shaping our company's data strategy and driving business growth through data-driven insights.
Key Responsibilities- Lead Data Strategy Engagements: Collaborate with business line executives to define data architectures for enterprise engagements and drive strategic data initiatives.
- Develop Data Architecture Patterns: Design and implement data architecture patterns, define playbooks, and technologies to support business needs.
- Establish Governance: Provide governance on enterprise data architecture and technology standards, ensuring consistency and alignment across the organization.
- Define Semantic Layer: Develop and maintain semantic layers, ontologies, and knowledge graphs to support data integration and analytics.
- Present Tools and Technologies: Create and present proposals for tools and technologies to the Enterprise Architecture Governance councils.
- Analyze Data Requirements: Analyze structural and enterprise data architecture requirements to enable new software and applications.
- Apply Best Practices: Ensure adherence to enterprise data architecture best practices across all solution architecture and design areas, including cloud native, hybrid cloud, and on-prem environments.
- Collaborate with Regions: Provide enterprise data architecture guidance and best practices to regional teams on various delivery and implementation projects.
- Support Project Teams: Assist project teams with complex technical issues from an enterprise data architecture perspective.
- Lead Technology POCs: Partner with the Data and Analytics teams to lead technology proof-of-concepts and pilots in the data and analytics domain.
- Provide Leadership: Offer enterprise data architecture leadership and guidance on the design of end-to-end solutions for building data and analytics applications on cloud and on-premise platforms.
- Coordinate with Data Life Cycle Management: Coordinate with the Data Life Cycle Management program on all aspects of delivery.
- Mentor Data Architects: Mentor other data systems designers (Data Architects) within the team and across the organization to support solution development and application of best practices.
- Provide Architecture Consultation: Provide architecture consultation for the evaluation of complex data and software systems.
- Strategic Data Architecture Engagement: Proven ability to engage and lead data strategy engagements with executive-level stakeholders.
- Cloud-Based Data Architecture: 3+ years of experience with cloud-based data architecture in a modern AWS environment (or equivalent experience in Azure or GCP).
- Leadership Experience: Approximately 15+ years of build/design experience related to data service design, building data architecture, with prior experience leading end-to-end implementations.
- Strong Knowledge: Strong knowledge of MDM, RDM, data modeling techniques, data architecture patterns, semantic layers, ontologies, and knowledge graphs.
- Additional Experience: Experience with GraphQL, Random Forest, and Tree, and ModelOps is an asset, but not required.
- Data Governance: Background in working with data governance and its application.
- Machine Learning/AI: Experience in Machine Learning/AI methodologies and event streaming is an asset.
- Technical Skills: Experience with technologies such as Kafka, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, and/or Snowflake, and Informatica IICS (or similar).
- Data Analytics and Visualization: Experience with data analytics and visualization using modern tools such as AWS Sagemaker, R Studio, and Tableau (or similar).
- Communication and Collaboration: Extremely strong communication, critical thinking, conceptual, and analytical skills, with excellent collaboration and leadership skills.
