Job Description

Job Title: Classroom Assistant - Indigenous Language and International Languages Program

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Classroom Assistant to join our team at the York Region District School Board. The successful candidate will provide support to students in a classroom setting, promoting positive attitudes and encouraging enthusiasm for language learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students during classroom activities through a variety of instructional strategies that best meet students' needs
  • Promote positive attitudes and encourage enthusiasm for language learning
  • Provide each student with appropriate and positive feedback that builds confidence and strength
  • Develop and maintain an equitable and inclusive learning environment
  • Communicate with the classroom instructor about students' progress and concerns
  • Ensure the safety of students both inside and outside the classroom for the duration of the program
  • Establish safe dismissal procedures in consultation with the classroom instructor
  • Assist students, volunteers, and instructors to restore the room to its original state at the end of the class
  • Ensure that students do not touch the belongings of day school students, teachers, and classrooms
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Candidate selection will be based on the results of an interview, experience, and assets/qualifications and reference checks
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have some of the following assets and/or experiences:
  • Fluency in various languages
  • Some teaching experience (preferably language teaching)
  • Experience working with children
  • Related education (degree or diploma, etc.)
